Shadow of the Demon Lord - Names of Rul Expanded for Companion 2!

:cough: Excuse my workload-related dust...

Thanks again to +Robert Schwalb for providing me with the naming lists and details of all the new races in the forthcoming Demon Lord Companion 2, namely the Hamadryad, Molekin, Naga, Sylph, and Yerrath. Expanded random name lists for these, along with the Azhar (Freeport Salamanders) has now been added to the Names of Rul document, bringing it to 8 pages of random names!

Monarchies of Mau - Random Cat Breed Families

Although the actual breed of a cat plays no mechanical role in Monarchies of Mau, it's fun to know what breed family your cat is from even if their allegiance lies with one of the major noble houses. To that end I've created a table of 50 cat breeds so that folks can roll for or pick an appropriate breed family.

You can grab it in the usual spot!

Pugmire and Monarchies of Mau Files Update

With the Monarchies of Mau Kickstarter underway and the Early Access available, I've updated several of my Pugmire downloads to reference Mau also, including adding a few distinct rules differences to how cat characters operate from MoM.

I'm also going to put together some files for Mau pretty soon including random generators for the appearance of a Mancer's bone focus and the form of the Footpad's expensive stolen item.

TimeWatch Enemies - Henry "Long Ben" Every

Arguably the most successful pirate in history, Henry Every/Avery was born in the West Country of England and served in the Royal Navy until 1690, became a slave trader, returned to seamanship, and eventually mutinied in 1694. Stealing the ship Charles II (which he renamed the Fancy) he was voted as the captain and for two years made a number of successful piratical raids. In cooperation with several other pirate vessels, he assumed command of a raid against a 25-ship Grand Mughal convoy in 1695, successfully seizing the Fateh Muhammad and Gunsway after several hours of vicious hand-to-hand combat on deck. In the process, he had captured £600,000 in precious metals and jewels (the equivalent of over £57 million in today's currency!). Every and his crew then set upon the survivors of the vessels with horrible cruelty and rapine.

The raid so damaged relations between England and the Mughals that a huge bounty was placed upon Every and his men. They fled and split company, 24 being captured eventually, but Every eluded capture and seemed to vanish from all records. He now raids the timelines instead!

TimeWatch Agents - Ambiorix

One of the princes of the Eburones, a Belgic tribe in NE Gaul, Ambiorix rebelled against the invading Romans under Julius Caesar. Although the Eburones defeated a whole legion and five cohorts under Ambiorix, the Romans responded by wiping out the Eburones over the next few years though according to the writer Florus, Ambiorix and his men escaped across the Rhine and disappeared without a trace. For his part, Ambiorix was recruited by TimeWatch.

Barbarians of Lemuria (Mythic) - Player's Primer

I've whipped together a 1-page primer to the setting of Lemuria for Players new to Barbarians of Lemuria. Obviously it can't cover everything, but rather aims to presents key highlights and aspects of the setting to give new players a grounding and solid feel for it without overwhelming them or taking too much time.

You can grab it in the "Some of My RPG Materials" section as per usual.

Pugmire Double Bill - Masterwork/Potion Descriptions and Equipment

A double dose of doggy delight for Pugmire today: I've created generators for describing masterwork objects and potions, and a one-page sheet containing the two replacement weapons from my earlier post and a list of example equipment characters might have in their rucksacks. Why do the latter when most of us know what sorts of gear fantasy characters might have? Because I'm going to be running the game for youngsters including folks who are completely new to RPGs, so it's a handy reference for them.

Grab the files under Some of My RPG Materials on my blog as usual.

Pugmire - Breed Families Expanded

After the better part of a whole day spent scouring and cross-referencing several encyclopedic books on dogs and searching the internet again and again when I was ill, I finally created an expansion of the Breed Families presented in Pugmire.

Each Breed now has 20 sample families and it was a hard task indeed, especially finding that blurry line between the dogs that constitute Fettles and Workers (many tough breeds are also very big and strong, typically Mastiffs and other molossers). The former are often mountain dogs and those breeds famed for endurance/tenacity, while the latter are a combination of dogs used for a large variety of jobs - often including cart-pulling and sled-pulling - and fighting breeds). The Runner breed was also an interesting one as the inclusion of the Shiba Inu (as Shibainu) in the official list, and the Dexterity bonus and mention of agility, indicate that it's not just about speed. Most are clearly sighthounds, but while the Shiba Inu is keen to chase prey it is not a particularly swift breed. It is, however, very agile and an excellent jumper and climber. That meant that a few other highly agile breeds known for climbing and jumping also entered the list such as the Catahoula, trio of Ridgebacks (Rhodesian, Thai, and Phu Quoc), and the Norwegian Lundehund (moved from the Fettle list because while it's a tough little dog, its flexibility, agility, and climbing skills are what are truly astounding about it).

You can grab the file from the My RPG Materials list on my blog.

M-Space - Near-Human Alien Appearance Generator

Whipped together a generator for aliens that are "near human" for M-Space, though as it's systemless it could be used with any space opera/sci fi rpg. It's for generating the appearance of alien species that for all intents and purposes are humans with strange ears, oddly-coloured skin, and strange cosmetic differences beloved of media such as Star Trek, Star Wars, and others. It's available on the official Frostbyte Books website HERE

Shadow of the Demon Lord - Names of Rul UPDATED AGAIN!

Thanks to +Robert Schwalb I have updated the Names of Rul document significantly in advance of the Freeport supplement as he kindly provided me with the name lists of the Serpent People and Undines. Rob has been generous in the past by providing info. on Jotun names before the fact, and has given my approaches for naming the Beastmen, Ogre, and Lizardmen the thumbs-up too.

Pugmire - New Weapons

So, with the final pdf of Pugmire now in the hands of backers, I'm happy to see many of the suggestions I made on tweaking and changing the weapon entries in the first round of backer feedback incorporated. Two changes didn't make it in though, so it's time for houserules and two new/replacement weapons!

1) The Dart has the same stats as the dagger, but cannot be used in melee and doesn't count as light making it woefully inferior. As darts were rarely ever used as weapons beyond the Roman plumbata and Greek kestros (which was thrown with a sling anyway) I'm ditching it and replacing it with:

One-Paw Crossbow (ammunition, ranged 20/60, light, loading) 1d6 piercing damage

2) The Trident is exactly the same as the common spear as presented, but is also a Martial Weapon, so essentially it's another inferior choice. Again, it was never really used outside of the Retiarius gladiator in Rome, so I'm replacing it with the much more likely Longspear (aka a Pike or Doru) as very long spear-like weapons were used throughout history in battles, as well as to hunt more dangerous prey in some nations. It makes makes a nice counterpart to the glaive and halberd and a clear step-up from the simple spear:

Longspear (reach, two-pawed) 1d10 piercing damage

There's a familiar name in M-Space - REFLUX

Folks who are fond of d100-based RPGs such as Basic Roleplaying, Mythras, Legend, and the very cool sci-fi RPG, M-Space (based on the stripped down Mythras Imperative rules), should be aware that a very cool, Star Wars-inspired adventure/setting starter was recently released for it called REFLUX

Why do I mention this? Because I provided Clarence Redd (M-Space designer, author, and all-round nice guy) with a heap of feedback on it including lots of tweaks and additions that would help round it out nicely and he mentioned me in the Special Thanks. Grab a pdf of the adventure at the link above.

Shadow of the Demon Lord - New Goblin Odd Habits

In the wake of the new Victims of the Demon Lord - Snot and Stitches, I've created an additional table of goblin odd habits such as:

You love to eat hair and fur or all varieties and often cough up hairballs.

You wear a lot of makeup… badly. You are convinced it makes you attractive.

I've also deleted the old Goblin Distinctive Appearance file as it's been superseded in content by S&S. Grab it in my files as usual!

Forgeborn & Magicmade: New Official PDF for Shadow of the Demon Lord

Just a quick note that I've written a new official supplement for Shadow of the Demon Lord, "Forgeborn & Magicmade", and it has just been released. It is used for customizing the construct templates in the core SotDL rulebook, much like "Of Monstrous Mien" was used for the monster templates, though I feel this is a tighter piece (not that I'm not happy with OMM).

It's currently at #2 on the Hottest Small Press chart HERE

In other news, I just finished checking, playtesting, and giving feedback on an adventure for a science fiction RPG that was recently released. More on that in future months.

TimeWatch Agents - Madame d'Oettlinger

One of Napolean's agents around 1815, d'Oettlinger was a spy in the Duchy of Baden when the Swedish monarchy was there. presenting herself as an exiled French royalist devastated by the death of her lover, the Duke of Enghien (whose downfall and execution she may have had a hand in). Despite warnings about her, she was so charismatic, beautiful, and witty (not to mention skilled at singing and harp playing) that she rapidly became popular in high society. Two of the Swedish royal secretaries fell under her spell and she soon acquired the Swedish king's plans regarding Napolean. She was last seen in Paris in 1815. Just before TimeWatch recruited her, of course.

TimeWatch Agent or Enemy - Dixie Bull "The Dread Pirate"

The subject of many ballads, Dixie sailed from London as the captain of a merchant ship in the 1630s and traded with the native tribes on the Maine coast of America. When the French attacked Castine Harbor, his ship and goods were all taken. Dixie promptly headed back to Boston, gathered a new crew and ship, and turned to the life of piracy that would make him legendary as "The Dread Pirate", including sacking Jamestown (Permaquid). No one really knows what happened to him at the end of his short piratical career. It is known that he eluded the armed naval expedition sent to arrest him as he headed for Virginia, a den of iniquity; some stories say he returned to England, others that he joined the French, others that he was hanged, and legend also has it that he buried treasure on islands in Casco Bay, Maine.

A potential TimeWatch recruit, albeit a ruthless one, or is he now pillaging the time lanes?
